'Albert Nobbs,' in which Close stars as a Victorian-era Dubliner passing as a man, has just been acquired for U.S. distribution by Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attractions, with a planned fall release date. (Hello, Oscar voters!)
"Glenn Close appears in nearly every frame as Albert Nobbs, and her performance is masterful," said Mickey Liddell of Liddell Entertainment in a press release. "This is an intimate film full of big ideas in the tradition of 'Gosford Park' and 'Sense and Sensibility.'"
Close first played the role nearly 30 years ago in an off-Broadway production of the play, 'The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs,' which won her an Obie Award. She's spent 15 years trying to bring the project to the screen and serves as the film's co-producer and co-scripter.
